Udupi Court Gives Undertrial Five Years for Warden Assault

A prison warden told prisoners to go to their barracks for a headcount.

Safan Hussain, an undertrial prisoner, was accused of threatening and attacking the warden.

The incident happened at a prison in Anjaru village on December 3, 2011.

Police registered a case and filed a chargesheet in January 2012.

Hussain was released on bail in May 2013.

He later stopped appearing in court and was recorded as absconding.

He was brought back before the Udupi court in April 2026.

In September, the court sentenced him to five years in prison and fined him Rs 40,000.
