Maharashtra Honors Koregaon Bhima Battle Anniversary

Maharashtra Honors Koregaon Bhima Battle Anniversary

On January 1, 2026, many people gathered at the Jaystambh in Perne village to remember the Koregaon Bhima battle that happened 208 years ago.

This battle was fought between the British East India Company and the Peshwa faction of the Maratha Confederacy.

Leaders like Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar and VBA Chief Prakash Ambedkar were there to pay their respects.

The battle is important because it was a victory against caste oppression.

There were many security measures to keep everyone safe.

Unfortunately, a tempo carrying people to the event overturned, injuring 15 people, including women and children.

Everyone was taken to the hospital, and no one died, but some people are still in critical condition.

The leaders also talked about upcoming elections and alliances with other political parties.
