Assam sees 28.6% drop in environment-related offences
In 2023, Assam saw a big drop in environment-related crimes, with 55 cases reported, which is 28.6% less than the previous year.
This is good news because it shows that more people are caring about the environment and following the rules.
The police and other agencies are also working harder to stop these crimes.
However, the rest of India saw a rise in such cases, with Tamil Nadu having the most.
Experts believe that better enforcement and more public involvement have helped reduce these crimes in Assam.
Assam recorded 55 environment-related offences in 2023, a 28.6% decrease from 2022.
Nationally, environment-related offences increased by 30.38% to 68,994 cases in 2023.
Tamil Nadu had the highest number of such offences with 41,304 cases.
Assam saw 75 arrests and 55 chargesheets for environment-related offences in 2023.
Experts attribute the decline in Assam to better enforcement, public awareness, and stricter laws.
