Bihar Reinstates Zonal Police System for Better Law Enforcement
The state of Bihar in India has decided to bring back a system that divides the police into big zones and smaller ranges.
There are now four zones: Patna, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, and Bhagalpur.
Each zone is led by a senior police officer called an Inspector General, and the smaller ranges are managed by Deputy Inspector Generals.
The government says this will help keep the police more organized and make it easier to stop crime and handle emergencies.
The change was made because the previous system, which was removed in 2019, did not work well.
The new system started on July 29, 2024.
It is expected to make policing faster and more responsive to local needs.
The government hopes it will keep people safer and improve how the police work.
This is a big change in how the police run in Bihar.
Bihar government has reintroduced a zonal and range-based policing system.
The state is now divided into four police zones: Patna, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Bhagalpur.
Each zone is headed by an Inspector General, with Deputy Inspector Generals overseeing ranges.
The change aims to improve law and order, crime control, disaster management, and administrative efficiency.
The reorganization follows a 2019 abolition of the zonal system that failed to deliver significant improvements.
