New India Foundation Announces Ten-Book Longlist for 2026 Prize

The New India Foundation has chosen 10 books for an important nonfiction prize about modern India.

All the books were published in 2025.

They talk about people, history, politics, communities and ideas connected to India.

Some books discuss the Constitution and how India developed after Independence.

Others look at partitions, migrant workers, fraud networks and classical music.

One book describes resistance to Indira Gandhi’s rule.

A seven-person jury will choose the winner.

The shortlist should be announced by the end of October.

The winner will receive ₹15 lakh, with the award presented on December 12 at the Bangalore Literature Festival 2026.
