Yerawada Women’s Prison Launches Radio Parwaaz Community Radio
Imagine a special radio station just for the women living in Yerawada Prison.
It's called Radio Parwaaz, which means 'flight' because it's meant to make them feel free and hopeful.
Some of the women who are in prison will be the ones talking on the radio, like DJs!
They will play music and share stories.
They will also talk about important things like staying strong, doing yoga, learning about women's rights, and knowing their legal rights.
This is similar to a radio station that started for the men in the same prison many years ago.
A special guest named Kiran Bedi helped open the new radio station.
Yerawada Women’s Prison has launched its own community radio station named Radio Parwaaz.
Radio Parwaaz, meaning 'flight', aims to symbolize freedom and aspiration for inmates.
Two inmates have been assigned roles as Radio Jockeys for the station.
The Maharashtra State Prison Department launched the radio, featuring programs on motivation, yoga, women's empowerment, and legal awareness.
This initiative follows the launch of Radio YCP for the male inmates in 2014.
