Chinnaswamy Stadium Safety in Doubt for IPL 2026
The Karnataka government wants to make sure the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru is safe before allowing IPL 2026 matches there.
This comes after a tragic stampede in June 2025 that killed 11 people.
The government is asking for a special safety report from experts.
Until the stadium gets this approval, important cricket matches, including those for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru team, might not be held there.
The BCCI has already moved some matches to another stadium in Navi Mumbai.
The team is considering using a stadium in Pune as their new home ground for the next IPL season.
Karnataka government demands a NABL-certified safety report for Chinnaswamy Stadium before IPL 2026 matches can be held there.
The demand follows a deadly stampede in June 2025 that resulted in 11 deaths and led to the stadium being deemed unsafe.
An independent commission warned that the stadium poses unacceptable risks for large-scale events.
The BCCI has shifted Women’s ODI World Cup matches to DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai and did not grant any men’s T20 World Cup matches to Bengaluru.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) is considering the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune as their new home ground for IPL 2026.
