Andhra Pradesh to pilot steam rice distribution
Andhra Pradesh is going to be the first state in India to give steam rice to people through the Public Distribution System (PDS).
This is like a special shop where people can buy food at lower prices.
The government did a study and found out that people like steam rice more than the regular rice they were giving.
So, they decided to change it.
They will start this in a place called Kakinada first.
They will give about 9,000 metric tonnes of steam rice every month to people who have ration cards, schools, and hostels.
The government also said they will sell steam rice at ₹52 per kg and regular rice at ₹50 per kg.
They are also going to give 500 grams of tur dal to every family that has a ration card.
