Navi Mumbai Prepares for Future Water Needs, Sets 2050 Plan
Imagine Navi Mumbai is growing fast, like a city getting bigger every day.
They need more water to keep up with everyone!
Right now, they're planning how to get enough water for everyone, even in the future.
They're building new water sources, like dams, to make sure there's plenty.
One of the new dams will be on the Ulhas river, and it will provide a lot of water.
They've already started getting more water from existing sources, too.
It's all part of a big plan to make sure everyone in Navi Mumbai has water, now and in the future!
Navi Mumbai's water demand is projected to reach 1,275 million liters per day (MLD) by 2050.
CIDCO is implementing a comprehensive water supply strategy to meet future demands.
The strategy includes the proposed Balganga and Kondhane dams and existing sources like the Hetawane dam.
Kondhane dam, located on the Ulhas river, will initially supply 250 MLD, increasing to 350 MLD.
The Maharashtra government sanctioned an additional 120 MLD in 2020, increasing CIDCO's allocation from the Hetawane dam.
