Tamil Nadu Officials Urge Hospital Mask Use Amid Infections

Tamil Nadu Officials Urge Hospital Mask Use Amid Infections

Health officials in Tamil Nadu want people to wear masks when they visit hospitals.

They are especially concerned about illnesses that can spread through the air or respiratory droplets.

Masks are not required by law, but officials say they may lower the chance of spreading respiratory infections.

Hospitals can be crowded with patients, visitors and healthcare workers.

People with coughs or other breathing-related symptoms are advised to wear masks.

Dengue usually spreads through infected mosquito bites, so masks do not stop it in the usual way.

Scrub typhus is linked to infected mite bites, while chickenpox and measles can spread in other ways.

Officials also suggested hand hygiene and separating some patients when needed.
