JCB Prize for Literature, Major Indian Literary Award, Discontinued
The JCB Prize for Literature, a big award in India that gave money to authors and translators, has stopped.
It was like the Indian version of the Booker Prize and helped Indian books get noticed.
It gave a lot of money to the winners, but now it's gone without an official reason.
The prize wanted to boost the sales of books like the International Booker Prize, but it didn't quite succeed.
This closure will mostly affect writers, translators, and publishers, and it may have a small impact on readers.
The JCB Prize for Literature, an Indian literary award, has been discontinued.
The prize, launched in 2018, awarded winners Rs 25 lakh (writer) and Rs 10 lakh (translator).
No announcement of the prize's closure was made, with the 2024 award ceremony being modest.
The JCB Prize aimed to emulate the success of the International Booker Prize, promoting Indian literature.
The closure impacts writers, translators, and publishers; readers' impact is expected to be minimal.
