Goa's Deposit Scheme: Few Firms Bid for Non-Biodegradable Waste
The Goa government is starting a new program to help clean up the environment.
It's called a Deposit Refund Scheme, or DRS.
When you buy something in Goa with packaging that doesn't break down naturally, you'll pay a small extra fee.
You'll get that money back when you return the packaging to a special collection point.
The government hired a company to run this program.
Although six companies showed interest, only three actually offered to do it.
The company will set up many collection machines all over Goa.
This helps reduce trash and keep beaches clean.
The Goa government is implementing a Deposit Refund Scheme (DRS) for non-biodegradable materials.
Only three of the six interested companies submitted tenders for the system operator role.
The DRS aims to reduce environmental pollution and promote cleaner beaches.
The system operator will establish an efficient network of collection points.
Over 300 automated collection machines will be set up across Goa initially.
