IndiGo Faces CCI Probe Over Exploitative Pricing
IndiGo Airlines is being investigated by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) for possibly charging too much for tickets after many flights were canceled.
This happened because of new rules that changed how pilots' work schedules are managed.
The CCI wants to know if IndiGo took advantage of its position as a big airline to raise prices unfairly.
Recently, there have been more flight cancellations due to bad weather, which has caused more problems for passengers.
The government has also reduced IndiGo's winter schedule by 10% after thousands of flights were canceled earlier this month.
The DGCA has set up a panel to look into the reasons behind these cancellations and the airline's preparedness to follow new rules.
The CCI is investigating IndiGo Airlines for alleged abuse of dominance through exploitative pricing following mass flight cancellations.
IndiGo canceled roughly 50 flights on Tuesday, affecting multiple airports including Mumbai, Delhi, Varanasi, Pune, Chandigarh, Amritsar, Indore, and Patna.
The government reduced IndiGo’s winter schedule by 10% after massive operational disruptions led to the cancellation of thousands of flights.
The DGCA has constituted a 4-member probe panel to investigate manpower planning, rostering systems, and the airline’s preparedness to implement updated duty period and rest norms for pilots.
The probe panel has already questioned IndiGo’s Chief Executive Officer Pieter Elbers and Chief Operating Officer Isidre Porqueras, with findings expected later this week.
