ED Director Visits Kolkata Amid Coal Scam Probe
The head of the Enforcement Directorate, Rahul Navin, is visiting Kolkata to check on the work being done by his team in the eastern part of India.
This visit comes after some searches were done at the office of a political consultancy firm called I-PAC and the home of one of its directors, Pratik Jain.
The searches were related to a case about illegal coal trading.
The Supreme Court is looking into claims that the West Bengal government tried to stop these searches and took away important evidence.
The ruling party in West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress, says the ED is trying to take documents related to their election strategies.
The ED director also visited Kolkata earlier this month after some of his officers were attacked in a different part of the state.
During that visit, he met with the state's governor.
ED Director Rahul Navin visits Kolkata for a review of the agency's work in the eastern region.
The visit follows recent searches at I-PAC's office and Pratik Jain's residence in connection with a coal pilferage scam.
Navin will interact with staff, review cases, and assess working conditions and security arrangements.
The Supreme Court is hearing claims that West Bengal officials obstructed the searches and took away key evidence.
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) alleges that the ED is attempting to seize election strategy documents from I-PAC.
