West Bengal Political Tensions Rise
In West Bengal, there is a big fight between the TMC, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and the BJP, led by Suvendu Adhikari.
The TMC is against a new law called the Waqf Act and says the central government is not giving them enough money for a job scheme called MGNREGA.
They also say the central government is being unfair and withholding funds.
The BJP says the TMC did not do what was needed to register Waqf properties and is blaming the central government for political reasons.
There was also some violence earlier this year because of the Waqf Act.
Mamata Banerjee tore up a note from the central government about MGNREGA, saying it was disrespectful.
She also talked about a social security scheme called Lakshmir Bhandar.
TMC opposes the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, and has filed a case in the Supreme Court to protect Waqf properties.
BJP accuses the TMC government of not recording objections and failing to upload Waqf property details on the Central portal by the deadline.
Mamata Banerjee tore up a note outlining new MGNREGA norms, calling it a 'valueless and insulting' diktat.
TMC claims the central government is withholding Rs 51,627 crore for MGNREGA and imposing restrictive conditions.
Widespread communal violence broke out in Murshidabad district in April 2024 over the Waqf Act.
