Assam and Meghalaya Agree Measures After Shillong Violence

Assam and Meghalaya Agree Measures After Shillong Violence

Assam and Meghalaya are neighbouring states in India.

Trouble started after vehicles carrying tourists from Assam were allegedly attacked in Shillong on August 19.

Some vehicles were damaged and some tourists were hurt.

Protests then took place at Jorabat, making travel between the states harder.

Leaders from both states met in Guwahati to calm the situation.

Meghalaya said it would help stranded travellers return safely and pay compensation for injuries and damaged vehicles.

The states also said people responsible for the violence would face legal action.

They plan to use police teams, helplines and joint committees to make travel safer and restore normal movement.
