Tamil Nadu Debt Debate Sparks Congress-DMK Alliance Tensions
Praveen Chakravarty, a leader in the Congress party, said that Tamil Nadu has the highest debt among all states in India.
The DMK, which is a partner with Congress in Tamil Nadu, got upset and said that the comments were not helpful.
Some Congress leaders, like P Chidambaram, said that looking at just the debt is not the right way to judge a state's economy.
The BJP also commented, saying that the DMK government is not doing well.
The Congress party in Tamil Nadu said that Chakravarty's comments do not represent their views and that their alliance with DMK is strong.
Meanwhile, Congress MP S Jothimani criticized internal conflicts within the party, warning that it is heading down a path of destruction due to petty factional squabbles.
Praveen Chakravarty, a Congress leader, stated that Tamil Nadu has the highest outstanding debt among all states, calling the situation 'alarming'.
DMK, an ally of Congress in Tamil Nadu, criticized Chakravarty's remarks, calling them a 'distraction' from larger issues.
Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram defended the DMK government, stating that total debt is not the correct measure to evaluate an economy.
The BJP accused the DMK of distorting data and mocked the Congress for the 'self-goal'.
The Tamil Nadu Congress unit clarified that Chakravarty's views do not represent the party's stance and reaffirmed their strong alliance with DMK.
