IIT Indore Develops AspireHLS Tool to Make Chip Designing Faster
Computers, smartphones and cameras all have tiny parts inside called computer chips.
Designing a chip is a lot like drawing a very complicated blueprint.
Engineers first write down what the chip should do.
Then they have to turn that into a detailed plan that a factory can use to build it.
This step used to be slow and needed lots of manual work.
Scientists at IIT Indore made a free tool called AspireHLS that does this step automatically.
It also finds a good balance between how much space the chip takes up and how fast it runs.
The tool helps with devices that process lots of data, like music systems and signal processors.
People in more than 60 countries have already downloaded it.
IIT Indore has developed AspireHLS, a freely available software tool that makes computer chip designing faster and easier.
The tool was built by Prof Anirban Sengupta and his team at the Hardware Security and Reliability Lab after nearly 10 years of research.
AspireHLS automatically converts chip designs into ready-to-manufacture circuit blueprints while balancing chip space and speed.
The product package, including benchmarks and tutorials, has been downloaded by users in more than 60 countries.
IIT Indore Director Prof Suhas Joshi called the tool a reflection of the institute's commitment to indigenous technologies with global relevance.
