Kolkata Halts New Tall Buildings Near Airport for Safety
Following a recent plane crash, Kolkata is making sure the area around the airport is extra safe.
The city won't let anyone build very tall buildings close to the airport, specifically within a 20-kilometer radius, if they are taller than a certain height.
This is to avoid anything that could interfere with airplanes flying in and out.
Buildings already approved can still be built, but new ones will have to wait until the aviation rules are clarified.
The goal is to ensure planes can fly safely.
Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) will not permit tall buildings near the Kolkata Airport.
The restriction applies to buildings taller than ground plus eight floors (G+8) within a 20-kilometer radius.
Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim confirmed the decision, citing aviation safety concerns.
Projects with prior approval are unaffected by the new rule.
Nearby municipalities are requested to follow the same guidelines.
