Tensions Rise in Kandukhera Over Language Survey
A long time ago, in 1986, there was a big argument between two places in India, Punjab and Haryana.
They were fighting over some villages and a city called Chandigarh.
The people in Kandukhera, a small area between them, were very upset because there were lots of police everywhere.
The police were there because they were doing a survey to see what language people spoke.
Haryana said that if the survey wasn't fair and some villages weren't moved, they wouldn't give up Chandigarh.
This made the situation very tense, like a pot about to boil over.
Kandukhera is at boiling point due to a language survey and police build-up.
Haryana threatens to not transfer Chandigarh if the survey is unfair.
Punjab and Haryana have sealed all entry points to Kandukhera.
The dispute is over the transfer of Hindi-speaking villages.
Haryana has filed an application with the Mathew Commission for CRPF deployment.
