Kerala HC: IGNOU Degrees Don't Need Equivalence Certificates
The Kerala High Court decided that if you have a degree from IGNOU (a big national university), you don't need another certificate to prove it's as good as a degree from a local school.
This was because the local authorities were making people with IGNOU degrees get extra certificates.
The court said this wasn't right, especially because IGNOU is approved by a national group that checks universities.
The court also pointed out that the state government had already said these extra certificates aren't needed for national schools.
Kerala High Court ruled that equivalence certificates aren't needed for IGNOU degrees.
The ruling concerns degrees from Central universities recognized by the UGC.
The case was brought by a primary school teacher challenging SET eligibility requirements.
The LBS Centre for Science and Technology initially insisted on an equivalence certificate.
The court cited UGC recognition and a state government order in its decision.
