Maharashtra Extends Bar, Restaurant Hours for Christmas and New Year
The Maharashtra government has decided to let bars and restaurants that serve alcohol stay open until 5 AM on Christmas Eve, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve.
This is a special permission given because it’s a festive time, and the hotels and restaurants wanted to stay open longer to serve more people.
Usually, these places have to close earlier, but the government said it’s okay to stay open late these special nights.
The people who run these places are happy because it will help them take care of more guests and make the city more fun for visitors.
Maharashtra government allows excise-licensed bars and restaurants to operate until 5 AM on December 24, 25, and 31.
The decision follows a request from the Hotel and Restaurant Association Western India (HRAWI).
Earlier, a state circular excluded liquor-serving establishments from round-the-clock operations.
HRAWI president Jimmy Shaw welcomed the decision, citing better crowd management and employment opportunities.
The extended hours aim to enhance Mumbai’s appeal as a vibrant and competitive tourism destination.
