West Bengal Minister Warns of Terrorist Base Threats
A West Bengal minister said the state might become a place for terrorists because it is close to Bangladesh.
She warned people to check documents before renting houses.
Two young men, Hamim and Arpita, were arrested for being linked to a terrorist group called Jaish‑e‑Mohammed.
Police said they used a secret chat app and that a Pakistani gang offered guns for a plan.
Both are charged with conspiracy and endangering the country.
West Bengal minister Moumita Biswas Mishra warned the state could become a terrorist base because of its border with Bangladesh.
The warning followed the arrest of 24‑year‑old Hamim Mondal and his partner Arpita Sarkar, linked to Jaish‑e‑Mohammed.
Police said the couple used Discord for secure communication and that JeM’s Shahzad Bhatti gang had offered firearms for a planned conspiracy.
Investigators highlighted a “well‑organised cross‑border espionage and criminal network” run by Pakistan‑based handlers recruiting local operatives.
Both Hamim and Arpita have been booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for conspiracy and endangering national sovereignty.
