Andhra Pradesh to Pursue 34% BC Quota in Supreme Court

Andhra Pradesh to Pursue 34% BC Quota in Supreme Court

Andhra Pradesh wants 34 out of every 100 local civic-body positions to be reserved for backward-class candidates.

A court in the state stopped that plan, saying it went beyond a limit set by the Supreme Court.

State ministers say they will ask the Supreme Court to consider the issue.

They say they have data to support their plan.

Ministers also met lawyers in Delhi to discuss what to do next.

The government says the quota could open nearly 16,800 local-body positions to BC candidates.

It says the goal is to give backward classes more representation.

The state says it is taking legal advice before deciding its next steps.
