Festive Sales Drive Record Credit Card Spends To Rs 2,167 Billion
Imagine everyone got new credit cards for a big shopping festival in September!
People spent more money using their credit cards than ever before, reaching a total of about 2,167 billion rupees.
Most of this spending happened online while buying things for the festival on websites like Amazon and Flipkart.
Big banks like SBI Cards and ICICI Bank helped a lot with these online purchases.
Because so many people shopped online, the amount spent online became a much bigger part of all credit card spending.
This shows that more and more people are choosing to pay with cards online, especially when there are good deals and sales happening.
Total credit card spends hit a record Rs 2,167 billion in September.
This represents a 13.4% month-on-month and 23% year-on-year increase.
The surge was primarily driven by a 21.7% MoM increase in online transactions.
Major banks like SBI Cards, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, and HDFC Bank led the growth, while IndusInd Bank saw a decline.
Online transactions increased their share of total spends to 66.5% due to festive e-commerce sales.
