Iraq's Shi'ite bloc backs Maliki despite US warnings
A group of Shi'ite political parties in Iraq, called the Coordination Framework, has chosen Nouri al-Maliki to be the next leader of the country.
This is despite a warning from the U.S. President, Donald Trump, who said that the U.S. would not help Iraq anymore if Maliki becomes the leader again.
Maliki was the first elected prime minister of Iraq after the U.S.-led invasion that removed Saddam Hussein.
The Coordination Framework has a majority in the Iraqi parliament, which means they have a lot of power to make this decision.
Iraq's Coordination Framework reaffirmed support for Nouri al-Maliki as next prime minister.
Maliki was Iraq's first elected prime minister post-Saddam Hussein.
The bloc holds a majority in Iraq's parliament.
U.S. President Donald Trump warned against Maliki's return, threatening to withdraw aid.
