SC rejects CISF inspector's retention plea, upholds compulsory retirement

In India, there is a security force called the CISF that protects important places.

One of its officers was told he had to retire early from his job.

The officer did not want to retire, so he asked the courts to let him stay.

A high court said no, and then the Supreme Court of India also said no.

The judges explained that sometimes the government can ask workers to retire early to keep the team strong.

They said this is meant to remove 'dead wood' — workers who are not performing as well as they used to.

The officer's work ratings had dropped from 'Good' to 'Average' in his last two years.

The judges said this kind of retirement is not a punishment or a sign of bad behavior.

The officer first joined the force back in 1982 and had been promoted twice.

In the end, the courts decided the retirement was fair and in the public's interest.
