Meghalaya Launches Green Deposit Scheme to Curb Plastic Pollution

Meghalaya Launches Green Deposit Scheme to Curb Plastic Pollution

Meghalaya, a state in India, has started a new rule to help keep its beautiful natural places clean.

Tourists who visit popular spots like Cherrapunjee, Dawki, and the Living Root Bridges will have to pay a small fee if they bring plastic items like bottles or bags.

This fee is called a 'green deposit.'

The good news is that tourists can get their money back if they properly throw away or return their plastic waste at special places when they leave.

This rule is meant to stop people from littering and to teach everyone to take care of nature.

The state government and local communities are working together to make sure this rule is followed and to keep Meghalaya's environment safe and clean.
