West Bengal to Enforce Healthcare Worker Safety Law

West Bengal to Enforce Healthcare Worker Safety Law

West Bengal’s health minister said the state will start strictly enforcing a law designed to protect healthcare workers.

He said the law was passed when Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee was chief minister.

According to the minister, earlier governments did not properly enforce it.

He blamed this on concerns about votes.

He said attacks on doctors and healthcare staff should not be ignored anymore.

The minister also explained that organ donation can happen when a person is declared brain dead.

Whole-body donation happens only after the person has completely died.

He praised southern states for keeping governments under pressure to perform through elections.
