Melora Hardin on Being Fired from Back to the Future
Melora Hardin was a young actress who was cast as Jennifer Parker in the movie 'Back to the Future'.
She was very excited to be part of the film.
However, when Michael J. Fox took over the role of Marty McFly, the director, Robert Zemeckis, thought that Melora was too tall to be his girlfriend in the movie.
This was because, in high school, taller girls usually don't date shorter guys.
So, Melora was replaced by Claudia Wells.
Melora was very sad about this and burst into tears.
She was only 17 at the time.
Michael J. Fox later wrote in his memoir that he felt bad about this and would have defended Melora if he had been asked.
Melora Hardin was originally cast as Jennifer Parker in 'Back to the Future' but was fired due to her height.
She was replaced by Claudia Wells after Michael J. Fox took over the role of Marty McFly.
Hardin was 17 years old at the time and was very upset about being let go.
Director Robert Zemeckis decided to replace her because of the height difference between her and Fox.
Michael J. Fox later expressed regret in his memoir 'Future Boy' and said he would have defended Hardin.
