DNA Damage Limits Human Lifespan to 150 Years
Scientists have found that even if we could stop all other causes of aging, humans would still only live up to about 150 years.
This is because of tiny errors in our DNA, called somatic mutations, that happen as cells divide.
These errors can make cells stop working or die.
The brain and heart are especially affected because they can't replace lost cells.
Other parts like the liver can keep renewing themselves and might last much longer.
This study helps us understand which aging processes we should focus on to help people live longer.
A study found that DNA damage limits human lifespan to about 150 years, even if other aging causes are eliminated.
Somatic mutations, or errors in DNA, accumulate over time and can cause cells to malfunction or die.
The brain and heart are particularly affected because they cannot replace lost cells.
Tissues with high regenerative capacity, like the liver, can maintain function for much longer.
The study was published in June by researchers at the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology and the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute.

Optimistic View on Lifespan Extension
Advances in medical technology and biotechnology could significantly extend human lifespan beyond current limits.
Pessimistic View on Lifespan Extension
The inherent biological limitations, such as DNA damage, make it unlikely that humans will live much beyond 150 years.
