Tesla Shares Drop 5% After Mixed Q2 Results
Tesla, the electric car company led by Elon Musk, recently reported its financial results for the second quarter of 2026.
While the company made more money overall compared to last year, it didn't make as much profit as expected.
This is because they sold more affordable versions of their cars, which brought in less money per car, and they spent a lot more on running the company.
Additionally, Tesla had to spend a lot on building new things, which left them with less cash at the end of the quarter.
Investors were worried about these results, and the company's stock price dropped by about 5%.
Tesla's leaders say they are focusing on growing the company in the long term, even if it means spending more money now.
Tesla's Q2 revenue grew 26% year-over-year to $28.24 billion, surpassing expectations.
EPS of $0.33 missed Wall Street expectations of $0.51, and net profit fell 5% to $1.11 billion.
Gross margins declined to 16.8% due to lower average selling prices and higher operating expenses.
Free cash flow turned negative at -$1.1 billion, compared to positive $146 million last year.
Capital expenditure more than doubled to $5.79 billion, up 142% from the previous year.
