Judge Challenges Tax Exemption Denial Under New Regime
A judge named Justice Sandeep Jain is upset because the government won't let him subtract certain allowances from his income when he files his taxes under the new system.
These allowances are things like money for his official home and travel.
The judge says these allowances should be exempt from taxes, but the tax website didn't let him do that.
So, he went to court to argue his case.
The court said they will hear more about it on July 28.
Justice Sandeep Jain challenged the denial of exemption of statutory allowances under the new tax regime.
The allowances include official residence, conveyance facilities, sumptuary allowance, and leave travel concession.
The income tax portal allegedly did not permit claiming exemption for Rs 9.85 lakh towards these allowances.
A two-judge bench asked the state government to apprise the court of the petition.
The next date of hearing is fixed for July 28.
