Goa Assembly Passes Bill to Speed Up Land-Use Conversion
The Goa Assembly passed a new law to make it faster to change how land can be used.
Before, officials had 60 days to decide on these requests, but now they have only 45 days.
The government says this will make things simpler and help people and businesses.
The law also cancels an earlier temporary rule that was put in place last year.
Most of the lawmakers agreed with the change, but a few did not.
The minister in charge said the new rule keeps all the important protections in place while making decisions quicker.
Goa Assembly passed the Goa Land Revenue Code (Amendment) Bill 2026 to reduce the time limit for land-use conversion applications from 60 days to 45 days.
The bill aims to streamline procedures and promote ease of doing business.
The legislation repeals the Goa Land Revenue Code (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, and saves all actions taken under it.
The bill was passed by a voice vote with 27 votes in favor and 6 against in the 40-member House.
Revenue Minister Atanasio Monserrate stated that the amendment simplifies the administrative process and ensures faster decision-making while retaining existing safeguards.
