DHS Quotes Olivia Rodrigo Lyrics, Asks Her Not to Belittle ICE
A singer named Olivia Rodrigo got upset because a government department, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), used her song in a video.
She said the video was bad and hateful.
The DHS responded by using words from her own song and told her she shouldn't disrespect the people who work for ICE, which is part of the DHS.
They feel those workers do important jobs to keep people safe.
The video has since been changed and no longer uses her song.
This isn't the first time a celebrity has been unhappy about their music or videos being used by the government.
Olivia Rodrigo criticized the DHS for using her song 'All-American Bitch' in an ICE promotional video, calling it 'racist, hateful propaganda'.
The DHS responded by quoting lyrics from Rodrigo's song and urging her to 'thank them for their service, not belittle their sacrifice'.
The ICE video, which no longer features Rodrigo's song, was captioned with instructions for people to 'leave now and self-deport'.
Rodrigo's comment, stating 'Don’t ever use my songs to promote your racist, hateful propaganda,' was initially posted on the video.
The DHS has previously faced criticism from other public figures, such as Jess Glynne and Theo Von, for using their content in promotional materials.
