Trump Renews Nobel Peace Prize Bid, Citing Eight Wars
Donald Trump says he should win the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize because he claims to have settled eight wars.
He made his case at the White House shortly before the prize announcement.
He said the committee would damage its reputation if it did not choose him, though he admitted he might not win.
Some of the countries involved dispute his account of his role, and fighting has continued or started again in some places.
The United States is also involved in an ongoing conflict with Iran, according to the reports.
But the Nobel rules do not automatically bar a leader because their country is at war.
A Norwegian committee will decide the winner by considering candidates’ contributions to peace.
Trump also pointed to a medal given to him by 2025 winner María Corina Machado, but the prize itself cannot be transferred.
He criticised Barack Obama, who won the award in 2009.
Donald Trump said at the Oval Office on October 7 that he had settled eight wars and deserved the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.
He said the Norwegian Nobel Committee would bring “a great discredit” on itself if it did not recognize his record, while acknowledging he might not win.
Trump said his diplomatic efforts were continuing and suggested he was seeking to resolve another conflict, apparently referring to the ongoing US-Iran conflict.
The reports cite disputed claims about his role in some conflicts, including India’s rejection of US involvement in the India-Pakistan ceasefire, and note renewed fighting or unresolved disputes.
The Nobel Peace Prize is decided by the Norwegian Nobel Committee; no rule automatically disqualifies a leader because their country is at war, and a medal cannot transfer the prize.
