Literary Activism Marks a Decade of Challenging Literary Norms
Imagine a group of writers and thinkers who were not happy with how books and ideas are discussed nowadays.
They started a project called Literary Activism, led by Amit Chaudhuri.
They wanted a space to talk about writing and creativity in a new way, outside of big events or stuffy schools.
This project has a website with essays, meetings, and even publishes books.
They discuss how books get published, how people read them, and try to make it better by creating a place where writers and thinkers can have honest discussions and share their thoughts.
Literary Activism, founded in 2014 by Amit Chaudhuri, aims to foster discussions on creativity outside mainstream and academic contexts.
The project includes annual symposia, a website with essays and art, and a publishing imprint in partnership with Westland Books.
Charles Bernstein, Jonathan Cook, Laetitia Zecchini, and Saikat Majumdar discuss the project's impact on their work.
The project was seen as urgent due to the perceived limitations of both the literary marketplace and academia.
Literary Activism is noted for creating a space for open-minded thinking and resisting market and academic pressures.
