IIT-Delhi Rolls Out Special PhD Admissions for SC/ST Students
IIT-Delhi is trying to get more students from Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe groups into its PhD programs.
They noticed that not enough students from these groups were applying, so they created a special application period.
This happened after a group of people from the government checked to see if the university was following rules about helping these groups.
IIT-Delhi is making it a bit easier for students from these groups to get in, such as by using the minimum requirements set by the institute, so that the university can have more representation.
They are hoping this will help them reach the goals they have set about how many students from these groups should be in their programs.
IIT-Delhi launched a special admission drive for PhD candidates from SC/ST categories.
The initiative aims to address under-representation of SC/ST students in doctoral programs.
The special drive follows a parliamentary committee review of constitutional safeguards.
Departments are instructed to adhere to the institute’s minimum criteria for SC/ST candidates.
IIT-Delhi saw modest gains in SC/ST enrollment in PhD programs between 2015-16 and 2024-25.
