India Renews Approvals for Nepal’s 98 MW Power Exports

Nepal makes more electricity when monsoon rains fill its rivers.

India has renewed permission for four Nepali power projects to sell a total of 98 MW of electricity there.

Their earlier permissions had expired, and the delay raised concerns about missing some of the rainy-season export period.

Nepal says it is currently sending about 600 MW to India on an average day.

India has approved exports from 37 Nepali projects in total.

But floods have damaged power stations and stopped 431.1 MW of generation capacity from operating.

The damage also halted Nepal’s electricity exports to Bangladesh.

Nepal has asked India to approve another project’s power sales in India, while some proposed sales to Bangladesh remain unapproved.
