PTI-Backed Politician Appointed Opposition Leader in Pakistan Senate
A man named Raja Nasir Abbas, who is supported by the political party of Imran Khan, was chosen to be the leader of the opposition in Pakistan's Senate.
This is like being the main spokesperson for the opposition party in the upper part of Pakistan's government.
The previous leader was removed because of legal issues.
Abbas' new job is important because it might help reduce arguments between the government and Imran Khan's party.
Imran Khan, who used to be the prime minister, is currently in jail.
His party says the last election was not fair, and they are planning big protests.
Abbas said he will stay loyal to Imran Khan's principles.
Another ally of Imran Khan was also chosen to be a leader in the lower part of the government, and he said the government should start talking to the opposition to reduce tension.
Raja Nasir Abbas, backed by PTI, was appointed as the opposition leader in Pakistan's Senate.
The appointment follows the disqualification of the previous leader, Syed Shibli Faraz.
Abbas is the sole senator from the Shiite political party Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen (MWM).
PTI, led by incarcerated former PM Imran Khan, nominated and supported Abbas' candidature.
The appointment is expected to lower political tension and facilitate dialogue between the government and PTI.
