India has no reason to fear Saudi-Turkey-Pakistan Mecca pact
Three countries — Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan — made a promise to help each other if one of them gets attacked.
This promise is called the Mecca pact.
Some people in India worried this could be bad for India.
They thought Pakistan might feel stronger and cause trouble.
But many experts say the pact is mostly a symbolic promise.
It doesn't have a big shared army or a commander like NATO does.
Each country has different worries, so they may not always agree.
Turkey says the pact is not aimed at any country.
India's government says it is watching the situation closely.
So India probably doesn't need to lose sleep over it.
Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan signed a trilateral defence pact in Mecca with a NATO-style mutual defence clause.
The pact's core clause states that an armed attack on any one member is regarded as an attack on all three.
India's foreign ministry said it is closely following the development, while some Indian analysts called it negative for Indian interests.
Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz said the agreement is not aimed at any specific country and is purely defensive.
Analysts say the pact lacks NATO's integrated command structure and is more about collective deterrence than collective defence.

Impact on India
Concerned view
Some Indian analysts, including former foreign secretary Kanwal Sibal, call the pact a very negative development that could embolden Pakistan.
Reassuring view
Experts say there is no basis to suggest the pact is tilted against India, and Saudi Arabia or Turkey are unlikely to rush to Pakistan's defence in an India-Pakistan war.
Nature of the pact
Concerned view
Some commentators hype it as a major new 'Sunni Nato' alliance providing collective security cover.
Reassuring view
Analysts say it is 'a thousand leagues away from being a new Nato', lacking integrated command, joint doctrine and joint operational commands.
Purpose of the agreement
Concerned view
Pakistan's foreign ministry says it enhances all aspects of defence cooperation among the three states.
Reassuring view
Turkey says it is not aimed at any specific country and is purely defensive; the BBC's Frank Gardner sees it as a symbolic signal to Israel and Iran.
