Punjab Speaker Urges Central Govt to Aid Basmati Rice Exporters
The speaker of Punjab's government, Kultar Singh Sandhwan, is asking the central government for help.
He says that people who export basmati rice are having a hard time because shipments worth over Rs 2,000 crore are stuck, and they're not getting paid.
This is because there's uncertainty in Iran, where they sell a lot of rice.
The prices in the markets have also gone down.
Sandhwan says this is hurting Punjab's economy and the people involved in growing, processing, and exporting the rice.
He wants the prime minister to do something about it quickly.
