Navi Mumbai: NMMC Disconnects Water and Sewer to C1 Buildings
Every year, during the rainy season in India, very old or damaged buildings can fall down.
To keep people safe, the city government in Navi Mumbai checks buildings and marks the most dangerous ones as 'C1'.
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, or NMMC, looks after the city.
On August 5, the NMMC switched off the water and toilet pipes going to these C1 buildings.
They did this so people would not want to live there anymore.
City leaders hope that if people have no water, they will move out and be safe.
Earlier, the NMMC had already asked people to leave these buildings during the monsoon.
The person in charge, Dr. Kailas Shinde, said nothing is more important than keeping people from getting hurt.
Many officials visited the buildings before the pipes were turned off.
The buildings are in places called Nerul, Vashi and Koparkhairane.
Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) disconnected water supply and sewerage connections to C1 (extremely dangerous) buildings across Navi Mumbai on August 5, 2026.
The enforcement drive followed directions from the Chief Minister and was carried out under the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde.
Additional Commissioner Dr. Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioners Dr. Amol Palve (Zone 1) and Sanjay Shinde (Zone 2) inspected buildings before disconnecting services.
Affected buildings include White House and Shivneri societies in Nerul, Little Flower, Noor, C1/C2-type buildings and Sumangal Apartment in Vashi, and Gagangiri, Silver Nest and Raj Palace in Koparkhairane.
NMMC said the move is a precautionary measure to discourage habitation and prevent loss of life from structural collapse during the monsoon, urging residents to vacate.
