Modi Pitches Deregulation and Reforms as India’s Growth Driver

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India is trying to keep its economy growing through reforms.

He said India’s stable politics and continuing policies make other countries more confident.

He described India as a bright spot while the world faces worries about growth and resources.

Modi said rules should generally allow activities unless the law clearly bans them.

He praised a program that gives companies incentives when they produce more goods.

He criticized earlier governments’ licensing rules, saying they contributed to shortages and unemployment.

He pointed to cheaper data, mobile-phone production, mapping, border infrastructure and rail projects as examples of change.

He said these reforms should improve government services and make daily life easier.

He also said the government is building trust with citizens and supporting household solar energy.
