Andhra Local Polls to Test TDP-NDA Grassroots Strength

Andhra Local Polls to Test TDP-NDA Grassroots Strength

Andhra Pradesh is preparing for elections to local councils and village bodies.

These will be the first major grassroots elections since the TDP-led alliance took power in 2024.

The government wants the elections completed by October.

Leaders of the alliance say they have delivered welfare schemes, jobs, roads, schools and development projects.

The YSRCP says the government has corruption problems and has not kept all its promises.

Local voters may care most about water, roads, drainage, irrigation and nearby public services.

The results will also depend on candidates, local alliances, caste and community factors, and campaign resources.

New rules would allow voters to directly elect city mayors and municipal chairpersons.

The elections may show whether the alliance’s 2024 support remains strong at the village and ward levels.
