India's Forex Reserves Decline by $5.6 Billion

Imagine a country's savings account for international money and assets; that's its foreign exchange reserve.

For the week ending October 31, India's savings account decreased by about $5.6 billion, bringing the total to just under $690 billion.

This drop happened mainly because the value of foreign currencies like the Euro and Pound held by India went down, and the value of the gold the country owns also decreased.

However, India's ability to borrow from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) actually increased a little, which helped lessen the overall drop.

The Reserve Bank of India releases this information weekly.
