Broking Charges Drop as Competition Intensifies
Broking charges for buying and selling stocks and derivatives are getting cheaper.
Big banks like HDFC, SBI, and Axis are lowering their fees to match or even go below what smaller, discount brokers charge.
For example, Kotak Securities now charges just Rs 10 per order, which is the lowest.
This is happening because there is a lot of competition, and people are trading less due to stricter rules.
Some brokers are also offering free account openings.
Experts say that while lower prices help attract customers, other factors like good trading platforms and strong customer support are also important.
Discount brokers like Zerodha and Groww still hold a big share of the market, but their market share has slightly decreased.
Bank-owned brokerages like HDFC Securities, SBICap Securities, and Axis Securities have reduced their fees to Rs 20 per order, matching discount brokers.
Kotak Securities now charges Rs 10 per order, the lowest in the market for both intra-day and F&O orders.
Most large digital brokers charge Rs 20 per order for derivatives trades, with some offering free delivery-based trades.
Experts believe the reduction in broking charges is a survival strategy to retain customers and compete in a tough market.
Discount brokers held 62% of the market share in terms of active clients in November, down from 63% in September.
