The Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) is planning to extend the Metro network from Kilambakkam to Chengalpattu, a distance of about 25 km.

This extension is part of Corridor-1 (Phase I) and aims to improve connectivity in the southern suburbs of Chennai.

The project includes 13 stations and is estimated to cost ₹9,335 crore.

The extension will connect key transport hubs like Chennai Airport, Tambaram railway station, and the Kilambakkam bus terminus.

Additionally, CMRL is also planning to extend Corridor-5 (Phase II) in North Chennai to improve connectivity in the northern part of the city.
