Telangana Pharmacy Council Seeks Action Against Unqualified Prescribers

The Telangana Pharmacy Council wants to stop people without proper qualifications from prescribing medicines.

It asked the state drug regulator to strengthen its checks.

The council is especially worried about antibiotics, steroids, pain medicines and pregnancy-termination kits.

Pharmacies may also be dispensing some medicines without valid prescriptions.

The council wants inspectors to check pharmacies more often.

It also wants authorities to verify whether doctors are properly registered.

Electronic prescriptions and better pharmacist training were suggested.

The group said safer antibiotic use is important because misuse can cause antimicrobial resistance.
