Pune Exhibition Brings Raja Ravi Varma and R.K. Laxman Together
A new art exhibition in Pune will show work by two famous Indian artists.
Raja Ravi Varma painted mythological scenes, royal portraits and stories from classical literature.
R.K. Laxman made political cartoons about everyday life in India.
The exhibition connects their different ways of telling stories through pictures.
It will include 53 printed images based on Varma’s paintings and 25 original works by Laxman.
Some of Laxman’s works show Ganeshas, crows, landscapes and family sketches.
The exhibition also celebrates the 100th birthday anniversary of Kamala Laxman.
Organizers say both artists wanted their work to reach ordinary people.
The exhibition “India in Image: Two Masters, A Shared Canvas” will be held at the R.K. Laxman Museum in Balewadi on August 22 and 23.
It will present 53 Raja Ravi Varma oleographs alongside 25 original works by R.K. Laxman.
The exhibition explores shared themes of visual storytelling, craftsmanship, characters and commentary on Indian life.
Laxman’s display will include lesser-known works featuring Ganeshas, crows, landscapes, and sketches of himself and his wife.
The event also commemorates the 100th birth anniversary of Kamala Laxman, an author and Laxman’s wife.
